4" M,v~l~ POST-KE--T~IS'~T~ VALLEY LIFE New emergency phone installed Kudos for Kuest by Jennifer R. Diamond There is a new addition to the Quincy Police deparunent. Charlie geeton, chief of po- lice for Quincy, said a new emer- gency phone was installed in March. He said the phone, which makes contacting the duty officer after hotws easier, was an idea suggested during a review by the Loan Executive Management As- sistance Program (LEMAP). "A team of three high ranking officers in the police field re- viewed the department and this was one of their suggestions," he said. Keeton said since the station is not open 24 hours but officers are on duty, the phone was put in. The department received funds from LEMAP to install the phone. The bright yellow box con- tains an auto ring receiver. Any- one who pic~ up the phone will automatically be calling the on- duty officer on a cellular phone. If there is no contact, the phone forwards to 787-2222 in the sta- tion, which is answered by the Multi Agency Communications Center (MACC) after hours. Keeton said the new phone has two purposes for the department. "The first is to better serve the Poa.RoCme photo by Jmrafe R. Dkwno~ Cindy Bepple, Quincy Police Department clerk, stands beside the newly installed after hours phone. public," he said. "The second is, it's ended up being a cost saver with MACC." Since going on-line with MACC in January, the station is billed for tic service according to the number of calls received. Keeton said although the phone was installed in hopes of better serving the public, it is not to be used in an emergenc y unless there is no other option. "This is not an emergency line," he said. "If someone has an emergency, they should call 9-1- 1 and they will get a faster re- sponse." Kccton said for non-emergen- cies crimes, residents should call the after hours number 787-2222.
