B2 May 12, 2011 VALLEY 00SPORTS 000000000000POST-REGISTER Courtesy of Earl Wolf, Jackrabbit golfers- Kip Slusher, Jeremthy Guthas, Alexis Pio, Aaron Greenwalt and Josh Schwint at the Suncadia Invite on May 2 ScLL'Mnt just misses cut FROM STAFF REPORTS Sunnyside - Aaron Greenwalt and Alexis Pio could see the line drawn in the sand at the 2011 Central Washington Athletic Conference boys district golf tournament, but not as well as Josh Schwint. The freshman was sitting around the club- house at Black Rock Creek Country Club in Sunnyside with his teammates and eyeballing the scoreboard. For awhile he was one of the 24 boys who were going to advance to the regional tournament at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman. But one of the last couple of foursomes came in and pushed Schwint just over the line and ended his season with a 25th-place finish. Schwint shot a 50-51-- 101, while Greenwalt (51-51-- 102) and Alexis Pio (51-51-102) were just one shot back. "The team sat and watched several scores post. Then that score came in that pushed us out and closed the door," coach Earl Wolf said. "The day ended so close and yet so far away." Kip Slusher (107), Jeremy Guthas (113) and Gabriel Hernandez (125) rounded out the Quincy scoring. Wolf credited Greenwalt and Pio for playing well. "Greenwalt and Pio hit the ball very well for the most part," he said. "Pio shot a personal best and was in the hunt until the last hole. It is a tough way to end the season." The medalist came from Selah's DerekWood, who fired a 75 on the par-72 course. The tourna- ment was top heavy, with four teams taking 18 of the 24 spots. Selah and Othello are sending five players each, while Ephrata and East Valley are advancing four players each. Team scores: Othello 328, Ephrata 334, East Valley 347, Selah 347, Prosser 349, Ellensburg 390. Wapato 406, Quincy 412, Grandview 489, Toppenish 498. Leavenworth Golf Course At Leavenworth - Guthas fired an 88 at the tree-lined Leavenworth Golf Course last Thurs- day. He was joined in double digits by Slusher (99) and Austin Foglesong (99).
