B6 June 9, 2011 VALLEY CHOOLS 0000!000000POST-REGISTER Kurtis J. WoodPost-Register Graduate Megan Slager hugs a classmate. Kurtis J. WoodPost-Register Jorge Montano, Class of 2011 Salutatorian, addresses the audience during the graduation ceremony. HTH: Continued from front page The family atmosphere seemed to be a shared experi- ence among High Tech High students, who received caring and individualized support throughout their high school years in order to make it this far. The graduates were: Gavri- ela Avalos, Baudelia Heman- dez, Omayra Hernandez, Hilda Lopez, Salvador Montano, Nicole Ortega, Salvador Nieto, Latasha Weyer and Cynthia Reyes. Graduating with highest honors was Tristan Kaufman. The students all received the congratulations they so greatly deserved for achieving their goal of graduation at the end of the ceremony from school district officials, their teachers, friends and family. Graduation: Continued from front page its graduation goal. "Thank you to our families for being there to add more fuel when our light was dimming," Perez said. She said the class is the em- bodiment of many things. "We are the face of persever- ance," she said. "We are the face of hope. We are the face of the future ..... We are the architects of our future." Following Perez's com- ments, a trio of Sara Kirk, Shelan Lybbert and Lakee- sha Realme, accompanied by Monica Berndt on the key- board, performed "The Music of the Night" from the musical "Phantom of the Opera." Valedictorian Luke Grigg thanked two QHS staff mem- bers individually for the help they have given the Class of 2011 -- Carol Sanchez and Bill Alexander. He asked his class to stop judging and to believe in each other and their dreams. "There are a lot of great people in this class that have a lot of potential energy," he said. "If no one else believes in your dreams, 1 do." Those dreams can become true by focusing on the many small tasks it takes to achieve them, rather than the single monumental task of making it happen. "Your dreams are worth seeking out because they are yours," he said. After Grigg's address, se- nior counselor Rod Luce named the students who earned approximately $386,000 in education awards. Then the graduates were individually presented with their diplomas before the adoring audience. When it came time to turn the tassels and celebrate, they cheered, tossed their caps into the twi- light, and embraced each other before turning to their family and friends who had come to personally congratulate them as "Time of Our Lives" played in the background.
