Donna Kiehn said that the position is a dream come true. "I've been thinking about this for a long time. This is an incredible staff and it will be so much fun to join them," she said. Kiehn grew up in Odessa. She attended Washington State University where she double majored in elementary teach- ing and speech pathology. She began teaching for the Moses Lake School District in 1971, teaching off and on until re- cently, taking a few years offto have a family. While in Moses Lake, she taught kindergarten, third and fourth grade and served as a speech therapist. She spent the last few years working with the Title 1, ESL and LAP programs at Longview Elementary in Moses Lake. She also directed summer school. A few nights a week, Kiehn commuted to Ellensburg to take classes at Central Washington University, where she earned her master's degree in educa- tion administration in 2001. "On all those drives back and forth I went by Quincy and was so glad to see those lights during the winter," said Kiehn. Kiehn said she hopes the school can act as a resource for parents. She said she thinks Pio- neer has wonderful programs in place already, but wants to learn more about them. She said she is eager to start a dialog with her staff and get their input and is looking forward to be- coming better acquainted with the community. "I am a big proponent of parent involvement," said Kiehn. "I am very eager to get to know the children and their families on an intimate level so 1 can be a better resource for them," she added. She said her goal is to know every child at Pioneer person- ally by the end of the school year. Kiehn said she is very im- pressed with the district and the enthusiasm of the other admin- istrators and teachers. She said the community seems very child-focused, and would love to see more parent and commu- nity volunteers in the school. "If anybody wants to come in and volunteer, we would love the help with math or reading," said Kiehn. The principal plans on com- muting to Quincy from Moses Lake, but said she is eager to spend as much time as possible QUINCY VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER 19o you have questions about the hospital levy?
